Thermoplastic olefin, or TPO, is an incredibly popular choice for flat roofing due to its unmatched resilience against solar UV radiation. The preferred color is white, renowned for its superior solar reflectivity. TPO roofs showcase exceptional tear resistance, with seams welded together by hot air for supreme durability. By merging the longevity of rubber with the reliability of hot air welded seams, TPO Roofing Systems offer a robust, tear-resistant single-ply membrane impervious to chemical spills, oil, and grease. Furthermore, TPO roofs are fully recyclable, often considered an eco-friendly solution as they contain no plasticizers. Designed to meet varied needs, TPO membranes are available in different thicknesses and roll widths to fit specific requirements.
Opting for a TPO roofing system is a wise decision for flat or low-sloped roofs. This energy-efficient and enduring solution combines the strengths of EPDM and PVC systems without the extra cost. Like PVC roofing, TPO systems are heat-weldable and rival the UV and heat resistance of EPDM. Despite its advantages, TPO roofing has some limitations, as expected with any system. Since its debut in the early 1990s, ongoing market research aims to address these imperfections.
TPO, or Thermoplastic Polyolefin, was launched in 1990, presenting a cost-effective and efficient alternative to EPDM and PVC roofing systems. This single-ply thermoplastic membrane comprises three meticulously engineered layers: a TPO polymer base, a polyester-reinforced fabric center known as scrim, and a thermoplastic polyolefin compounded top ply.
The TPO manufacturing process prominently features fillers such as fiberglass, talc, and carbon fiber, alongside metal oxides, sulfurate, and wollastonite. Commonly used rubbers include EPDM and ethylene-propylene, integral in TPO production.
Durability
This roofing system is engineered to withstand dirt, mold, and debris. The flexible TPO roofs adapt as buildings settle, offering superior resistance to thermal expansion and contraction compared to other single-ply systems.
Easy Installation
TPO roofing systems boast effortless installation, thanks to their lightweight nature and availability in large rolls, simplifying movement and reducing welding needs. This ease translates into direct benefits for the customer.
Energy Efficiency
TPO roofs are highly sought after for their outstanding energy efficiency and reduced carbon footprint. The highly reflective white surface exceeds EPA Energy Star standards, with white, tan, and grey options listed by the Cool Roof Rating Council. TPO roofs are an excellent choice for cooling your home and minimizing energy expenses.
1. Outstanding mechanical properties with excellent flexibility in the absence of plasticizers.
2. Utilization of non-volatile plasticizers eliminates potential volatility issues.
3. PVC outer plasticizers may degrade over time and temperature changes, potentially causing performance degradation and other concerns.
Longevity
TPO roofing systems, introduced in 2005, are still subjects of extensive research to refine their chemical formulations. Manufacturers have faced challenges like membrane cracking, seam failures, and bursting. Although new formulations are being tested, their long-term durability remains uncertain. Selecting materials from well-established companies is advisable for TPO roofing installations.

1)How to choose suitable waterproof membranes?
- For exposed areas like roofs, we recommend TPO or PVC waterproof membranes, which can be applied via welding or adhesive methods.
For areas that are not directly exposed, such as kitchens and bathrooms, we recommend our high-quality polymer PE combined with non-woven fabric. This innovative material can be easily applied with cement, allowing for tiles to be conveniently adhered on top of the cement layer.
2) Is OEM available?
Yes, we warmly welcome OEM service at any time, tailoring our solutions to fit your unique branding needs.
Please provide us with your logo so we can create a design for you, or you may send us your completed design directly. We will then ensure it is expertly printed on
the packaging materials, whether it be round paper, profile paper, or the outer carton, for a polished and professional presentation.
3) Are you a factory?
Yes, Shandong Chenhua Waterproof Co., Ltd. proudly stands as a seasoned manufacturer of premium waterproof materials since 1994. Situated in the renowned China Waterproof Town - Taitou, we offer a diverse array of products that adeptly cater to varying waterproofing needs for both unexposed and exposed surfaces.
